Dairy ingredients play a central role in saving the lives of children suffering from severe acute malnutrition in low-income countries worldwide. More recently, dairy proteins have been added to foods targeting over 500 million children at risk of stunting and wasting, and in nutritional supplements for people living with HIV and AIDS or in emergency environments.
Dairy for Global Nutrition is working to answer some of the most critical scientific questions. How much dairy protein is needed to ensure health outcomes? Are there short-term windows of opportunity where a little dairy can deliver long-term health impacts? What alternative formulations can provide similar results at a lower cost? We invite you to join us in our pursuit of improved nutrition for the world's most vulnerable populations, and to use this website to find and share information on the role of dairy.
The U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC) launched Dairy for Global Nutrition to provide a resource to those considering or using dairy ingredients to improve nutrition for the most vulnerable globally. It links readers to scientific information, independent research, and a range of resources. Dairy for Global Nutrition and USDEC support the global nutritional principles set forth by the World Health Organization, the Codex Alimentarius, and UNICEF. A complete set of principles and protocols is available from info@DairyforGlobalNutrition.org.
